April 28, 1935 – March 05, 2019
Peacefully, on March 5th, at the West Island Palliative Care Residence, from pancreatic cancer. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Richard, children Ian, Jane (Ed) and Gwyneth (Marc), grandchildren Siân, Nicholas, Brynne, and Rhiannon, along with cousins, nephews and nieces, and many many friends.
Moira and Richard immigrated to Canada in 1957 from Haverfordwest, Wales. With Richard, she made Quebec her home, raising her three children, working as a registered nurse and pursuing graduate studies in psychotherapy. Moira was head nurse of North II at the Allan Memorial Institute (RVH) for many years and was a strong proponent of primary care nursing. She volunteered her time to many organizations, including AMI-Québec, where she was on the board for more than 20 years. Moira had great sympathy for and understanding of those suffering from mental illness and supported them through her life’s work. She had endless energy, playing tennis, Tai Chi and weight training up until just days before her diagnosis. She dressed to the nine, drank green juice, was a lovely dinner guest and a great hostess. She was always ready to listen to family, friends, and clients, with a gentle smile, encouraging them to live life to the fullest. Moira was a role model for us all, especially for her four grandchildren, who knew her as Moia and loved her deeply. We thank the wonderful caring nurses at Lakeshore Oncology, the CLSC, and the West Island Palliative Care Centre, including Louise, Kim, Mea, Mandeep and Sonia.
A memorial service to celebrate Moira’s life will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm, on Thursday, March 14th, at Voluntas Commemoration, 4695, boul. St-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Island Palliative Care Residence and AMI-Québec.
